Here are the nominees for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, to be held on March 7:

The Blind Side
District 9
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire
A Serious Man
Up in the Air

Best picture is almost certainly down to Avatar and The Hurt Locker (who both led with 9 nominations each), but I was glad to see District 9 included. I only saw five of the best picture nominees, though I really wanted to see A Serious Man and Up.

Kathryn Bigelow – The Hurt Locker
James Cameron – Avatar
Lee Daniels – Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire
Jason Reitman – Up in the Air
Quentin Tarantino – Inglourious Basterds

Again, it will come down to Avatar and The Hurt Locker, but I’d really like to see Tarantino win. Inglourious Basterds was his crowning achievement in my eyes. Would have liked to have see District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp get a nod.

Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart
George Clooney – Up in the Air
Colin Firth – A Single Man
Morgan Freeman – Invictus
Jeremy Renner – The Hurt Locker

Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side
Helen Mirren – The Last Station
Carey Mulligan – An Education
Gabourey Sidibe – Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire
Meryl Streep – Julie & Julia

I would guess Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock will probably continue their win streak fore their respective categories at the awards shows. For Actress in a Leading Role, I would have liked to see Mélanie Laurent from Inglourious Basterds nominated (bumping Helen Mirren, possibly).

Matt Damon – Invictus
Woody Harrelson – The Messenger
Christopher Plummer – The Last Station
Stanley Tucci – The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds

Penelope Cruz – Nine
Vera Farmiga – Up in the Air
Maggie Gyllenhaal – Crazy Heart
Anna Kendrick – Up in the Air
Mo’Nique – Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire

Christoph Waltz should win Actor in a Supporting Role, and deservedly so. I didn’t see it (as most people haven’t due to its bad reviews) but I believe Stanley Tucci is a bit of a surprise for The Lovely Bones. I’m guessing Mo’Nique will win for Actress in a Supporting Role.

The rest of the nominees after the jump: Continue reading
