The Coen Brothers remake of the 1969 John Wayne classic opens December 25. Official synopsis:

Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross’s (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him — over his objections — to hunt down Chaney. Her father’s blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.

Freakonomics is the movie companion to the best-selling book of the same name, brought to you by the people behind Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Super Size Me, Jesus Camp, Why We Fight and The King of Kong. It arrives in theaters on October 1st and on iTunes a month earlier on September 3.

Official synopsis:

Alex Gibney (Enron:The Smartest Guys in the Room, Casino Jack and the United States of Money) delivers a visually arresting look at the crumbling façade of Sumo wrestling and exposes searing and violent truths about this ancient and revered sport. Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) offers up a buoyant and revealing angle on the repercussions of baby names. Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing (Jesus Camp) balance levity and candor with their eye-opening profile of underachieving kids incentivized to learn with cold hard cash. Finally, Eugene Jarecki, who brought us the unforgettably powerful Why We Fight, investigates an unsettling theory to explain why crime rates dramatically dropped in the early ’90s. Seth Gordon (The King of Kong) weaves the pieces together with brisk interludes, providing context and commentary from the authors. Freakonomics exposes the hidden side of everything, debunking conventional wisdom, and revealing what answers may come if one just asks the right questions.

Here’s the full-length international trailer for The Social Network, which basically means that the choir sings the “fuck’ from Radiohead‘s “Creep.” As a recent David Fincher convert, I think this movie looks amazing and cannot wait to see it.

Winnebago Man is a documentary about the infamous Jack Rebney, whose foul-mouthed outtakes while filming a commercial made him a YouTube sensation. Filmmakers caught up with him 20 years after the original commercials were filmed to find out if he is still the same old crotchety man he was back then.

The Banksy movie has finally made it to Charlotte, but likely won’t be around more than a week or two. Hopefully I will get a chance to catch it.
